Mimicry

Lake

2019
photograph, digital print on canvas / paper, polycarbonate boards, two-channel video projection, 33’30”, sound; 2’10” loop, mute
700 x 150 x 20 cm

The static scene of the expanse of nature along the shore of the lake contains a small interior full of life: six girls playing music, dancing and laughing are the concentrated bloom of life. This static landscape at the other end of the work melts into a landscape whipped by a strong wind that contains its opposite, an empty and motionless interior.

Mimicry

2004
photograph, c-print on paper
300 x 60 cm

Walking through the meadow, my floral patterned dresses mimic the flowers around me. I am dressed in the environment, and the environment is reflected in me. In unity, I see and perceive what I am, and I am what I see.

Jardinière

2006/2009
jar with soil, plants and stones, video projection to the stone, silent, loop
70 x 70 x 80 cm / 200 x 200 x 40 cm

In a large jar with soil and low forest plants, my image is projected over the stones. The floral patterns of the dresses I wear mimic the plants around me. Unlike the usual question of whether the world around me is real, here I am the one who, although visible, is unreal.

Ivy

2006
photograph, inkjet print on canvas 250 x 125 cm
curtain – digital print on fabric, 300 x 200 cm, three dresses sewn from the same fabric, hangers

The house is dressed in a living ivy. Wanting to be dressed in living clothes myself, I sewed three dresses from ivy-patterned fabric. The cuts of the dresses are still visible as scars in the fabric, but will soon be outgrown and healed.
