MIRJANA VODOPIJA (b. 1963) is visual artist who employs motifs from nature to problematize the notions of consciousness, identity and perception of time and space, often making use of different media: drawing, graphic art, photography, objects, installation, video installation and ambients.

She graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb in 1987 and has since exhibited in 42 solo exhibitions and participated in over 250 group exhibitions, curatorial concepts, artistic symposia, residential projects and professional training programmes around the world.

She is the recipient of 15 art awards, including the 1st Award at the 3rd International Triennial of Graphic Arts in Prague, 2001 (III. mezinárodní trienále grafiky, Praha), and the most recent include the Vladimir Nazor Award of the Ministry of Culture and Media of the Republic of Croatia (2020) and the Annual Award of the Croatian Association of Visual Artists (2019) for her solo exhibition The Wandering Landscape, held at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Zagreb in 2019.

Vodopija is a full professor at the Academy of Fine Arts of University of Zagreb where she has taught since 2007. She is also the author of numerous scenographies, set designs and visual identities for television shows, theater performances and concerts.

Her works are included in the collections of major Croatian museums and galleries and private collections as well as some abroad, such as Print Inventory of the Tamarind Institute, Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA. Prints were realized during two one month residency projects in Tamarind Institute and Santa Fe Art Institute in Albuquerque: Connections (2002), and Re Connections, 2004).

Her work was written about by art theorists, in exhibition and project publications, books, domestic and foreign professional and art magazines, and in the cultural sections of numerous magazines, as well as in the daily press. An extensive monograph on her artistic work by art historian Branko Franceschi was published in 2004 by the publishing house Fraktura, Zaprešić.
